A global leader in aquaculture feeds

Skretting Aquaculture Research Centre (ARC) is the global research organisation for Skretting, the global leader in aquaculture feeds. Skretting ARC employs over 120 people, with over 50 specialist researchers, a comprehensive laboratory, fish trial facilities and a feed technology plant located in and around Stavanger, Norway. Skretting ARC also has research and validation units in China, Japan, Italy, Chile, Ecuador and Australia. With core competencies in the areas of nutrition, health, feed production and research methodologies, Skretting ARC is at the forefront of aquaculture feed research.

"Aquaculture feeds have been traditionally based on marine raw materials, and Skretting have made great strides over recent years to eliminate the dependence on single raw materials."

“In order to facilitate sustainable food security, farming – whether on land or in the water – needs to evolve through the adoption of new techniques and technologies,” says Dr Alex Obach, Managing Director at Skretting ARC. “Bold steps are essential at every level, including animal and aquaculture feeds, so that resources everywhere are used more efficiently, environmental impacts are reduced and productivity is elevated. At Skretting ARC, these ambitions are an integral part of our strategy and are realised through the delivery of highly innovative research, resulting in sustainable nutritional solutions for the aquaculture industry.”

Skretting ARC is an enabler for growth in Skretting. It continually investigates sustainable feed raw materials and novel technologies. “Aquaculture feeds have been traditionally based on marine raw materials, and Skretting have made great strides over recent years to eliminate the dependence on single raw materials, including marine ingredients,” says Obach. “The flexibility gained from this research knowledge opens the door for novel raw materials, such as those derived from innovative biorefinery solutions.”

"The SUREAQUA Centre of Excellence partnership provides a way for us to be involved with a diverse group of leading research and industry partners."

Dr Charles McGurk, Manager of the health department at Skretting ARC says this is an exciting time for biotechnology research. “Recently we have seen many new frontiers being crossed in the biotechnology realm. With this development comes great opportunities for us to think creatively, develop our competence and look for new opportunities. The SUREAQUA Centre of Excellence partnership provides a way for us to be involved with a diverse group of leading research and industry partners, offering the possibility to map the future of our young industry in terms of development of new technologies that can help enhance sustainability and profitability outcomes.”
